She knew Ange from ten years ago. She works with Ange in hopes that she will help her ascend to the throne. Princess's true name is Ange.
During episode 9 it is revealed that Ange, the current "Princess" was switched with the real princess when the revolution started. Thus, she had to learn all the etiquette and mannerisms of being a princess on her own and adopted the role of "princess" in place of Charlotte.
